Linear video editing is a traditional method where footage is edited in a sequential, fixed order, much like tape-based systems. The editing process involves cutting and arranging clips in a timeline, with no ability to jump between parts of the sequence without physically altering the media. This method is often contrasted with non-linear editing (NLE), which allows more flexibility and ease in rearranging clips. Linear editing is mainly used in analog systems or simpler video workflows.
