Trying to sort out logistics for a group trip and hoping people who've actually booked a
boat rental ontario trip before can weigh in, since I keep seeing different capacity numbers depending on the source.
From what I've found, bowriders seem to be the most common pick and generally seat somewhere between six and ten people depending on the specific model, which sounds like it'd work for a mid-sized group without needing to split into two boats. If we end up with a bigger group though, pontoons look like the better call since they're built more for comfort and stability with more people aboard, less about speed and more about everyone actually having room to hang out.
We've got a couple people in the group who want to try wakeboarding, and it looks like that changes the calculation a bit, since a standard bowrider can technically pull someone but a dedicated ski/wake boat is apparently built specifically to produce a proper wake, so if watersports are a priority rather than a maybe, it might be worth booking that instead of assuming a regular bowrider will do the job well.
Delivery seems to be the other big variable, most providers seem to deliver directly to your dock or cottage rather than making you handle transport, which is a relief, but I'd assume that varies by exactly where on the lake you're staying given how spread out Ontario's shoreline is across different cities.
Has anyone actually taken a group of eight or more out on a bowrider comfortably, or did you find a pontoon was the better call once everyone was actually on board with gear and coolers and everything else people bring along?
