Institutional Building Contractor – What Should You Look for Before Hiring One?

macclarke
Hi everyone,

I’m currently researching how to choose the right institutional building contractor for larger-scale projects and wanted to get some opinions from people with real experience in this area.

Institutional projects seem very different from standard residential or small commercial jobs because there are usually stricter regulations, larger teams involved, tighter deadlines, and more detailed planning requirements. Because of that, I imagine choosing the right contractor becomes even more important.

For those who’ve worked with an institutional building contractor, what qualities made the biggest difference in your experience? Was it communication, scheduling, previous project experience, compliance knowledge, or something else?

I’m also curious about what red flags people usually watch out for before signing contracts on larger institutional projects. It seems like mistakes at the planning stage could become very expensive later on.

Any practical insights or personal experiences would really help me understand what to prioritize when evaluating contractors.
