Hey everyone,
I keep receiving .xlsx files from coworkers and friends, but I don’t actually have Microsoft Excel installed on my laptop.
I’ve seen a lot of tools called “
XLSX viewers”, and I’m wondering:
Are they safe to use?
Can I rely on them for everyday use?
When would I actually need full Excel instead of just a viewer?
From what I understand, an XLSX viewer:
Lets you open and read Excel spreadsheets
Shows tables, basic formatting, and sometimes simple formulas
Works either in the browser (online viewer) or as a small app on your computer
That sounds perfect for me because most of the time I only need to:
Check numbers in a report
Read a price list or budget
Look at data someone shared
I almost never edit complex formulas or make big spreadsheets myself.
So my questions are:
Is an XLSX viewer enough for basic office/school work?
Do you have any favorite viewers (online or desktop) that you’d recommend?
Have you ever had problems with files not displaying correctly?
Would love to hear your experience before I decide whether to pay for Excel or just stick with a simple viewer. Thanks!
