Dental Cleaning for Dogs – What’s the Most Effective Routine?

macclarke
Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on dental cleaning for dogs and what routines people have actually found effective for maintaining good oral health long-term.

My dog has started showing early signs of plaque buildup and occasional bad breath, so I want to get ahead of it before it becomes a bigger issue like gum disease or expensive treatments later on. I’ve read about different methods such as brushing at home, dental chews, water additives, and professional cleanings, but it’s hard to tell what really works consistently in real life.

For those experienced with dental cleaning for dogs, how often do you brush your dog’s teeth, and do at-home methods make a noticeable difference over time? Also, when do you usually decide it’s time for a professional cleaning?

Any practical tips, routines, or personal experiences would be really helpful. I’d like to build a simple routine that actually works and is easy to stick with long-term.
