Commercial General Contractors – What Should Businesses Prioritize During Selection?

macclarke
Hi everyone,

I’m looking into how companies evaluate commercial general contractors for upcoming construction and renovation projects, and I’d appreciate hearing from those with firsthand experience.

There are many commercial general contractors available, but determining which one is the best fit for a project can be difficult. While cost is always a consideration, factors such as experience, communication, scheduling, safety practices, and project management capabilities seem just as important.

For those who have worked with commercial construction teams, what criteria have been most valuable when comparing contractors? Do you place more emphasis on past project success, industry expertise, references, or the contractor’s ability to coordinate multiple trades efficiently?

I’m also curious about common pitfalls during the selection process. Are there any warning signs that businesses should watch for before committing to a contractor?

Any insights, recommendations, or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!
