Are Cardboard Tampons Comfortable Compared to Plastic Applicators?

Considering switching to cardboard tampons for environmental reasons, but unsure about the actual user experience.
Not sure if they feel different during insertion compared to plastic applicators or if they are harder to use. Also wondering if they stay comfortable and hygienic or feel less smooth during use.
Looking for real experiences from people who have tried them.
